MEAH!
MEAH!は、Patrick Rios (G/Vo.) とGeoffrey Carr (Dr/Vo.)
Chicago‘s MEAH! creates abstract future music.
Chicago’s MEAH! creates avant pop anthems.
Chicago‘s MEAH! creates slacker country ballads.
MEAH! is Patrick Rios (guitar, vocals) and Geoffrey Carr (drums, vocals), sometimes two piece, sometimes three, others as many as six or seven or more. They have been chugging away for long damn time (since 2006), sending out all kinds of gushy weird hearted vibes from their own little corner of the earth. Abstract yet familiar, layered yet grounded, groovy and angular, oh, and a bloody, sweaty, break-everything, freak-the-fuck out and dance your brain off live show, MEAH! is a thing you should think about letting into your life and not letting go of.

JEBIOTTO

京発ニューウェーブシンセライオットパンク!
2014年6月中旬2nd Album "LOVE SONG DUET" をCALL AND RESPOSE RECORDSから発売予定。
Jebiotto are a Tokyo-based synth-punk band based around Madca (synth/vocals), Tutti (Guitar) and Moririn (drums/electro pads). With roots in the Koenji underground scene of clubs like 20000V and the UFO Club, their music mixes pop melodies and dance beats, delivering them with the energy and electricity of a punk band.
Love Song Duet is the group's second mini-album, and on it Jebiotto's Jekyll-and-Hyde personality is on full display. They write pop songs that reach for epic stadium rock status, but at the same time they subvert and undermine them with an anarchic punk sensibility, like Bon Jovi wrapped in tinfoil, falling down some stairs, or TM Network in a washing machine with some rocks.
In Summer 2014 Jebiotto visited the USA for a tour of New York and the East Coast.

comorevi-ButtEr fLy

comorevi-ButtEr fLy plays a little progressive, a bit noisy and kind of pretty. From Japan to North America and back. Based in Tokyo, previously Chicago.
Tomoko plays idiot guitar and sings. Sometimes comorevi-ButtEr fLy is her solo, such as when she opened for the Breeders along with Melt Banana in Tokyo. Using drum machine and de-arranged video game sequences, she has released many handmade compact discs, and self produced a full length and E.P for streaming and download. She likes a chorus on her voice.
Paul plays drums and sings. He prerecords bass, guitar, and synthesizer and processes sound using handmade foot switches and controllers, then drums atop. He has released many handmade cassettes. He performs solo under the name I Steal, and likes a delay on his voice.
Together they merge to form blissful noises. Played with The Ex, Ruins Alone (Yoshida Tatsuya), The Breeders (Kim Deal), Young Sexy Assassins (Neptune), Cruciforms (Sterling), Tim Kinsella (Promise Ring), Tigris Flowers (Tabata Mitsuru).
“comorevi-ButtEr fLy takes a more avant-garde approach, incorporating disparate-sounding noises, instruments, and melodies into songs that sound surprisingly cohesive." - The Onion

Anyone can add gigs!

This has been a feature of Tokyo Gig Guide for a couple of years now, but it seems that a number of users don't realise that anyone can add gigs to the site.
If you find any gigs that you think should be listed on Tokyo Gig Guide, you are free to add them. Or if you want to promote your band or event, it's easy to add your gigs to Tokyo Gig Guide in English or Japanese.

First you need to register to the site. Don't worry - it's quick and free. You'll find a Login/Join link on the top right of the site. Click that, and on the next page click Register. Fill in your details, pass the simple picture spam check thing, and then you will get a link in your email inbox to confirm your registration.

Okay, once you are logged in, an Add a Gig link will appear in the top right. Click on that and a gig submission form will appear. Fill in that and voilà!

A few tips:

  • Do a quick search to make sure the gig is not already on the site.

  • Let's imagine you are adding a gig titled "Kicking Buckets vol.1" with three bands playing. If you only put "Kicking Buckets vol.1" in the gig title, that's all that will appear on the Gig Guide main page, and as people don't recognise it, they will be unlikely to click it. But if you put the band names in the title, people will be far more likely to click the link to your gig's page. Please remember to add the names of all the artists playing the gig.

  • The more information you can give, the better. In the details box, try to include links to the homepages of the artists and any helpful information.

  • Include an image. Upload the flyer for the event or a picture of one of the main artists.

  • If you are not sure about any section of the Add a Gig page, hover over the little light bulb icon next to each section and it will explain everything. Instructions are also included at the bottom of the page.

  • If you need to later edit any gigs you have added, when logged in, click the little Edit Event icon () next to the word Event at the top of your gig's page.

  • There is an extensive Help/FAQ you can refer to if you are confused. For any questions not answered there, send an email or message to admin.

n'toko
We are pleased to have Slovenian electro rapper N'toko take over the mic and sampler on the Gamuso stage.

akane hosaka
Everyone enjoyed the blipping bleeping melodies of Akane Hosaka when she played at Farm Party #2 a year ago, so she is back for another explosion of electronica and puppet cuteness.

Causing a stir on the Tokyo avant-disco scene is ヤング・フラッテリィズ, two guys on synth and dance beats, and an odd frontman who is sure to make creative use of the Gamuso live space.

abikyokan
Abikyokan with its members from 4 continents will be bringing their new-wave avant-pop synth-rock sounds to start proceedings.

Live:

ii (from Australia)
http://www.myspace.com/iitunes
ii ("ai ai") is the abstract, experimental pop duo of Alex Nosek and Jon Tjhia (from Aleks and The Ramps) from Melbourne, Australia. Mostly improvising - and using an array of synthesisers, samplers, guitars and effects - the pair create adventurous and richly detailed music. Their sound sits somewhere between strange electronics, deep drone, ambient techno and guitar pop. They've played with bands including Tujiko Noriko, Beach House, High Places, Fabulous Diamonds, Lawrence English and many more.

OPQ

OPQ will fill Gamuso with bizarre homemade instruments, toys and their experimental, ambient psychedelic sounds.

Tokyo Gig Guide presents Farm Party #1 on Jan 31st

On Sunday January 31st, Tokyo Gig Guide will hold its first music event.
It will be a bit different than the usual Tokyo gig though.
Tokyo gigs often have heaps of bands playing straight after each other, but at this event there will be three bands spaced out through the evening. Between bands, DJs will be playing some eclectic sets.
Also, it won't be held at a typical livehouse, but at Gamuso, a fun bar/gallery in Asagaya. Gamuso has a bar downstairs and a small live music room upstairs. You can read about it in this Metropolis article.
It will be cheap too, just ¥1000, plus ¥500 for a drink.

The bands playing are Abikyokan, Walkie Talkie In The Cornfield and PSOCASE.

Abikyokan formed around the core trio of Jacob Arntson (Seattle, USA), Grant McGaheran (Sheffield, UK) and Tatsumi Ochiai (Chiba, Japan) in Tokyo in 2004. The band pool a wide variety of influences to create a new avant-pop sound.

Walkie Talkie In The Cornfield is a two-piece Irish/Australian lo-fi experimental electro-pop group which formed last year.

PSOCASE is a Japanese experimental lo-fi duo which combines electronic sounds, guitar, sax, vocals and keyboards. The wonderful Eri Makino will join them for a song.

DJs on the night will be Jake and Grant from Abikyokan, DJ Timebread, and dj craig eee who will also be providing video projections.

The party kicks off at 7pm.

Details here: http://farmparty.tokyogigguide.com

Don't worry by the way, although it's called Farm Party, there won't be any chickens wandering around and there (probably) won't be any barn dancing.
